Here Comes Y2K Plus One

Robert McKenney, FAAMA, Director

The College's Information Systems Office is looking forward to undertaking a number of enhancements during the upcoming fiscal year.  Below are just a few of the projects that will be underway:

With the various upgrades, training sessions and information will be offered to customers.  During the summer months, the Information Systems Office will be surveying the users as to the type of formats that they would like to receive such information.

Audio-Visual, too, is having a busy summer as activities are underway for delivery of services to the new Heart-Lung building as well as implementing equipment upgrades in Meiling Hall auditoriums with guidance and direction from customers and the College's AV Advisory Committee.

Welcome to the “World of Remote Service”.  You have been connecting remotely, now you can be serviced remotely.

The COM & PH I.S. Office is implementing the use of Virtual Network Computer (VNC).  Essentially, VNC enables the I.S. Office to view a "desktop" environment from our workstations with the users permission.  This tool will assist us in troubleshooting computer issues faster and allow us to perform other technical tasks. The results will mean increased productivity and reduced  "downtime" for you.

In our ever-growing environment, filled with many deadlines, VNC is a powerful and essential tool.  The user has the power to open and to shut down access to their computer.  It is a password protected system, therefore no member of the IS Staff will be able to access your machine without your permission and knowledge.

To maintain the current level of service to our users, VNC is essential in our growing environment. VNC gives the I.S. Office the ability to troubleshoot computer issues faster and address more in a shorter span of time.  Troubleshooting is only one aspect of what makes VNC an essential tool.

Come to one of the two presentations and learn how you can make full use of the benefits of VNC.
We will have a questions and answer period for all your questions.

Greg Rickabaugh joined the College during the Spring Quarter as the new Audio-Visual Operations Manager.  Believe it or not, but Greg comes to us from the same company as did Britta August.  He brings to the position 17 years of technical service experience with the latter 4 years involving delivery of AV level of services to a local school district.

As part of his orientation and desire to be on forefront, Greg has been meeting with customers, colleagues in other colleges, and vendors in order to bring a comprehensive and evolving understanding of the issues and opportunities to the area.

Want to schedule equipment? AV scheduling number is 292-8099.  Greg can be contacted by calling 688-3194 (e-mail: rickabaugh.5@osu.edu).

Travel Fast Around Documents

Brian Wilson, Web Operations Manager

Instead of scrolling down every page and scanning each paragraph to move around in your Word documents, travel fast using the Select Browse Object button.

When you click this button (located in the bottom right corner of your screen between the two sets of double arrows), you get a pop-up button menu with the following options: Go To, Find, Browse By Edits, Browse By Heading, Browse By Graphics, Browse By Table, Browse By Field, Browse By Endnote, Browse By Footnote, Browse By Comment, Browse By Section, or Browse By Page. Select one of the buttons to change the function of the double arrow buttons on either side of the Select Browse Object button.

For example, if you click the Browse By Table option, you can then go to the previous table in your document by clicking the double up-arrow button. Similarly, clicking the double down-arrow button will take you to the next table.
